Changing your email or password

2 min readUpdated

How the two-step email change works, how to reset a forgotten password, and why Google sign-in accounts see neither form.

Both live in Settings → General. Which forms you see there depends on how you signed up.

Changing your email

An email change needs confirmation from both addresses — the current one and the new one. That is not friction for its own sake: confirming only the new address would let anyone with momentary access to a signed-in session move the account somewhere you cannot reach.

  1. Enter the new address in Settings → General.
  2. Check both inboxes. Two confirmation emails are sent — one to your current address, one to the new one.
  3. Click both links. The change only lands once both are confirmed.
Until both links are clicked, your address in the app deliberately still shows the old one. It updates when the change actually completes, so what you see is always the address that currently works — not one that is merely pending.

Changing your password

You will be asked for your current password before setting a new one. Passwords must be at least 8 characters. Changing it does not sign you out of the current session.

If you have forgotten it

Use the forgotten-password link on the sign-in page. You will get an email with a recovery link that takes you straight to a form for setting a new one. That link is single-use and short-lived — if it has expired, request another rather than reusing the old email.

Accounts that signed up with Google

If you signed in with Google, you will see an explanation in place of both forms rather than the forms themselves. There is no app-side password to change, and your address is managed by your Google account — changing it there changes it here. This is why the fields are absent rather than merely disabled: there is nothing for them to act on.
